That famous line from the movie is quoted by a veteran every day somewhere on the planet. Not a lot of people know this, but Michael Caine never actually said that in the movie. The movie was pure class though, and still is. I can hear you all singing Men of Harlech now… Men of Harlech stop your dreaming, can’t you see their spear points gleaming… The film Zulu was released in 1964 and is still regularly shown on TV. I know for a fact, that Sir Michael was a Lt at Rorke's Drift and also commanded an Irish Guards Battalion in Operation Market Garden, then he became a spy in the 60’s after which he began driving mini’s and robbing banks.
Born in 1933 in Rotherhithe, London. Maurice Joseph Micklewhite Jr took on the stage name Michael Caine. He did two years National Service from 1952 to 1954, (National Service, virtually anyone who didn't have flat feet or VD did their bit) serving with the Royal Fusiliers in Iserlohn, Germany and on active service during the Korean War. He is a keen supporter of bringing back National Service. Not a lot of people know that… they do now!! From my book ENDEX. www.clivewardauthor.com
