Changing parades now banned in the British Army

Updated: Jul 2, 2021

Apparently, ‘changing parades’ are now banned in the British army. Surely not? Not them as well, I don’t believe that for one minute. It would not surprise me if they still went on under a different name. Looking back, as a junior soldier, I did find them a bit bizarre. I remember my Platoon Commander couldn’t get enough of them.

I always thought it a little strange though, dozens of semi-naked, sixteen-year-old boys, wearing only the most basic of military equipment.

‘I want you all back out here in PT vest and Long Johns, go!’

‘Not quick enough, get back down here in webbing and tin pisser, oh and NBC boots.’

It was when he ordered us back downstairs in MESS TIN ORDER, that we started to ask questions. We didn’t see him again after that. Did anyone else experience ‘Mess tin order,’ or witness it? Best boots, steel helmet and a webbing belt with a mess tin hanging at the back and front, and that is all. I don’t think my ball bag ever recovered from that. Then it was twice round the square for us.

Can you imagine this happening today? Or was I imagining it? Was it just an urban myth, or did it really take place? It must have done, or else I’ve been having some seriously f**ked up dreams. BULLIES AND BULSHIT Warning! If easily offended, I really do advise you not to read this book. www.clivewardauthor.com
