The last time I went to the barber was in 1976, basic training at Whittington Barracks, Lichfield. That was the first time ever I saw someone draw blood with hair clippers and he nearly took someone’s ear off. The guy was a complete psycho… and we had to pay for the privilege. Turned out the barber was an ex-sheep farmer, twenty of us in an hour, that was his record. For f**k’s sake, it was just like shearing sheep. I was surprised he didn't wrestle us to the floor first.
DID YOU KNOW? The current world record for shearing the most merino ewes in an eight hour spell is 497. That works out at just over one ewe a minute. The record was set by Lou Brown a New Zealander in Western Australia. Hiring a professional shearer in the UK costs about £1 per sheep. Warning! If easily offended I really do advise you not to read this book.
