ABOUT ME
I was born in the 1950’s and brought up in Derby in the 1960’s. I joined the Military in the 1970’s and spent 14 years serving with the Worcestershire and Sherwood Foresters Regiment. Tours of duty followed in, Lichfield, Colchester, Germany (BAOR), Belize, Northern Ireland Newry and South Armagh, (Op banner), Cyprus UN, Northern Ireland Belfast (Op banner), Warminster, Cambridge and the USA. I toured the Caribbean on board HMS Nottingham as a bugler during the Queen’s commonwealth tour. Whilst serving in the army I started writing and drawing cartoons as a hobby, submitting my cartoons to National Newspapers/magazines worldwide. Having some success spurred me on to make a career out of writing and drawing cartoons. In 1982 I became a member of the cartoonist club of Great Britain. And later some of my cartoons appeared on TV as part of Comic relief. Now with the digital age upon us and the internet giving us the opportunity to self- publish I started writing books. And from the time I made the decision I’ve never looked back. The only advice I got was from a fellow writer, my wife Elaine Ward ‘the rock.’ I said to her, ‘what the hell do I write about?’ ‘She said ‘Write about what you know,’ so I did, and I’ve never looked back. I’m sure in a few years time I will get bored with writing and become a painter or something, who knows? But for now, I’m a writer and I’ve got lots of books in me yet. When I joined the army back in 1974, I couldn’t read or write and got in the Army by cheating on the entrance test! Fortunately, I met my wife and she took on the task of teaching me the basics. It just goes to show anything is possible. I believe we should record our memories for future generations to look back on. Either good, funny or bad! I hope I dig up some of yours. You’ll find mine hidden in my books. I wonder what they’ll think in a 100 years from now. Thanks for your time.
